How to create a workplace culture that promotes Mental Health & Well-beingThis year I’ve not only committed to donating money to RUOK Charity, but I’ve become a community ambassador in which I’ve committed to reaching out and spreading awareness at certain workplaces or events. I’ve recently started doing mental health and well-being talks for some of my client’s staff meetings on behalf of RUOK Charity. By offering this service to my clients’, it has been an amazing way to combine my passion for charity into my work. A majority of my clients are non-for-profit organisations or government departments within child protection, and although they are helping people everyday as social workers, they often forget to look after themselves and check-in with each other. This concept has inspired me to start a Wellness at Work Top Tips on our social media platforms (Facebook, LinkedIn & Instagram). Every Tuesday I’ll post a top tip for wellness at work to hopefully inspire other workplaces of what you can do to encourage well-being in the work place. Here are a few top tips I believe can help create mental health and well-being in the workplace:Get active! – I encourage all my staff to go to the gym at lunch or a walk around the park, anything I can do to get them moving. It’s great, as we all feel refreshed and recharged for our afternoons as we get active at lunch. We also set goals as a team for our fitness and weight loss goals and it encourages us to support each other.Team Breakfast or Lunch – I try and do this with my team once a month, it’s a great way to discuss plans for the month but also catch up as a team in a way we don’t get to in the office.Be a friend to your colleagues – We all have bad days where life can get stressful; so if you notice someone in your team is having a bad day, check-in with them, take them for coffee or catch up after work.Mental Health Days – I allow my staff to take a day as sick leave for Mental Health when they are going through a stressful time in their lives.Offer staff the option of flexible hours, working remotely or a 9-day fortnight where they can get there hours in accordingly.I have a lot more top tips coming, so follow us on Instagram @TaylorCare Recruitment, Facebook at TaylorCare Recruitment & my LinkedIn profile under Kate Taylor.Kate Taylor – Managing Director – TaylorCare Recruitment
